RDS (Room Data Sheets) are used for capturing the requirements and information of each space in a design. These are usually prepared by the client during the briefing stage (also known as architectural programming in the US) of the design process. They may be updated throughout the design process to reflect changes or provide a clearer picture of the people responsible for delivering a project.

The Room Data Sheets SmartTool is an accurate and reliable sheet that lets you view and schedule your building tool for building rooms (or space) data sheets within a Revit project. The tool can generate 3D plans elevations, sheets, and schedule views of rooms or spaces.

The tool will default to the Room Numbering Template and Sheet Format that are determined by the Revit Project. However, you can select an alternative style of sheet and name by clicking the Tool Options tab. Alternately, click ‘Load’ …’ on the toolbar to load previously saved configurations that will replace the current settings. This can reduce the amount of manual work required to change the settings for different dimensions and types of rooms.

In the ‘Naming tab, the user can select whether to include the room or space name in the sheet’s ‘Sheet Name’ text box which is located on the left side room data sheets of the screen. View Name: is the text that appears in the title bar for each view, while the ‘View Increment’ option specifies the increment of numbers between each view after it is placed on the sheet. The option ‘Spacing’ can be turned on to regulate the space between each view on the sheet, and’Exclude View Titles in Estimating View Sizes on Sheets:’ will prevent titles from being included when determining the number of views that can fit on a page.
